About Manitoba Maple Burl

Manitoba Maple Burl—also known as Box Elder or Ash-Leaved Maple—is a North American hardwood prized for its wild, three-dimensional grain patterns. Naturally, the burl is softer and lighter than most maples, but once stabilized it becomes far more durable and perfectly suited for fine jewellery and other precision work.

Stabilization removes the wood’s natural air and resins, then infuses it with acrylic resin to strengthen the structure and lock in detail. This process also allows the addition of color not normally found in nature. In this piece, a vibrant green dye highlights the burl’s swirling figure, creating a bold, eye-catching contrast that’s completely one-of-a-kind.
